Thank you Sarah for persuading  Abraham , and Franklin for  keeping the tradition alive.
Small world connection:
The first line of Sarahs poem 'Mary's Lamb( "Mary had a little lamb") was first recorded by Thomas Edison on his invention the phonograph.

War bonds..

The call of the day was to give up 1 dollar in 10 for the war effort thats not one dollar but 10% of average yearly income($1800-1942 dollars) or $180 (1942) dollars.

The projected war cost( at 33 20 N ,44 26 E ) is more like $1833.57 distributed per person per year these days. (based on a US pop. of 272,690,813 and a projected cost of 500billion over the next decade or 50 billion per year).

A similar call to contribute would have each US citizen would contribute $4331.80 (based on an average US yearly income $43318- 2002 dollars) or using 1,028.03% inflation since 1942, $1800/year. Now since there are twice as many people in the US since 1942 this should mean half the burden. So only $900/year if we are to answer the same call as earlier generations at the lowest rate. This is still only 2 percent of our average yearly income yielding $245,421,731,700 a year.

This contribution would still only satisfy about half (41%) of ourmilitary spending habit for 2006 $419.3 billion. It would however quadruple the 2006 Department of Education budget or pay for the individual Department budgets of Agriculture, Education, Energy,Heath and Human ServicesHomeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Justice and Labor.
